My Icons

The Art of Iconography

Since childhood, driven by an innate desire for beauty, I began to draw. I graduated from a children's art school and an art college. Over time, God led me to faith and gave me the opportunity to touch the sacred tradition of Byzantine icon painting, which I studied at the Icon Painting School at the Moscow Theological Academy.

For many years, I have lived and worked on Mount Athos, dedicating my life to God and the creation of sacred images. The icons that you will see here are the result of many years of studying the Athonite tradition of icon painting. Each icon is created carefully, with prayer and attention, according to the medieval technology of egg tempera, and is passed down from generation to generation.

The meaning and significance of the Icon

An icon is not just an artistic image, and not even just a testimony of Divine Revelation, the icon itself is the Divine Revelation of the incarnation of God, Who became man. What the Gospel says in words, the icon conveys through images, speaking to a person in a language of visual perception that is understandable to him. The icon, like the Gospel, is called to open the eyes of the human soul and show it the beauty, goodness and love of God. It is called to teach the soul prayer and contemplation, and everything that brings the soul closer to God. Therefore, the icon carries a deep theological meaning and is created in prayer and attention.

These icons are painted by Hieromonk Euthymius, an iconographer living on Mount Athos. He follows the sacred tradition of Athonite iconography, using ancient techniques to create each work with precision and prayer.

Traditional Byzantine icons are painted using egg tempera on wood, often with a gold leaf background. The wood is carefully prepared with gesso, and natural pigments are used to ensure the colors remain vibrant for centuries.

The creation of an icon is a slow and prayerful process. Depending on the complexity and size, it can take anywhere from several months to a full year to complete a single icon.

The price of an icon depends on its size and level of detail. For example, a hand-painted 30x40 cm icon costs around 5000 Euros. Larger or more intricate icons may cost more due to the time and materials involved.
