About Us

Who We Are

Mount Athos Traveler’s Guide is a project created and maintained by the Cell of Saint John the Baptist, a monastic Kathisma on Mount Athos. This platform serves as a practical resource for pilgrims and visitors, offering guides, transport information, an interactive map, and prayer request services.

This website is not an official representation of Mount Athos or its monasteries but an independent initiative by a community of Mount Athos lovers and pilgrims to assist those who seek guidance on their pilgrimage.

Our Mission

Our goal is to provide a comprehensive and reliable guide to Mount Athos, helping visitors navigate the sacred mountain with ease. Through our platform, you can:

Everything on this website is offered freely to benefit pilgrims and visitors.

The Cell of Saint John the Baptist

The Cell of Saint John the Baptist is a Kathisma, a small monastic dwelling on Mount Athos. It was restored in 2003 on the site of an ancient Kathisma of the same name. The cell continues the monastic tradition of prayer, spiritual life, and labor.

The cell is maintained by Hieromonk Euthymius, who has the monastic duty (diakonima) to preserve and renovate it. As part of his work, he has undertaken this website as a service to the wider Orthodox community, providing practical guidance for visitors to Mount Athos.

Icons by Hieromonk Euthymius

In addition to his monastic duties, Hieromonk Euthymius is an iconographer, creating traditional Byzantine icons. His work follows the sacred traditions of Orthodox iconography.

You can view his hand-painted icons in our Icon Gallery. While we do not sell icons online, those interested in ordering an icon may contact us. By commissioning an icon, you help sustain our monastic life and support the cell’s construction and maintenance.

How You Can Support This Project

We are grateful for any support, whether it helps improve this website or sustains our monastic life. There are two ways to contribute:
