The Icon of Virgin Mary Elaiovrytissa stands as a beacon of hope and divine intervention at the Pantokrator Monastery.

Historical Origin

The icon-fresco is a copy of the Gerontissa Icon and is placed over the miraculous oil vessel in the monastery.

Miraculous Events

Painted in 1845 after a miracle where the Virgin Mary provided the monastery with much-needed oil, it remains above the same vessel as a testament to this event.

During the German occupation, the Virgin Mary appeared in a captain's dream, directing him to deliver 100 vessels of oil to the monastery, arriving just as the main vessel ran dry.

Artistic Features

The fresco includes the inscription "Mother of God, Holy Gerontissa" and depicts the cellarer and the abbot of the monastery. Created in 1845, it is attributed to Nikiforos II from a workshop in Karyes.
