Icon Location

The icon is situated on the northern wall of the Katholikon of Hilandar Monastery, near the entrance from the narthex to the main temple.

The Miracle of the Icon

The icon is named after the miracle it performed. A monk, unable to light a lamp in front of the icon due to a draft, collapsed after being divinely chastised.

Description of the Icon

The icon is double-sided with the Crucifixion on the reverse. The Virgin Mary holds the Infant Jesus in her arms, blessing the faithful. Two angels are depicted in the upper corners.

Icon Provenance

This icon is considered a 14th-century copy of the Icon of the Virgin Mary Ikosifinisa, stored in a monastery of the same name on the northern slope of Mount Pangeon.
